Winter Skincare

In the Midwest, you know the season has turned to winter when all moisture is zapped from your skin, and you find yourself applying lip balm every five minutes. Winter calls for enhanced skincare protocols, so here are some tips I adhere to this time of year. 

  1. Use a purifying mask weekly to help remove dried, flaky skin. I like Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask.

  2. I switch to a creamy formula face wash

  3. Use a sugar scrub weekly to exfoliate your lips. You can buy one, or make one just as easily with a little brown sugar, coconut oil, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. 

  4. Exfoliate 3x weekly with an exfoliating treatment or Clarisonic brush with regular cleanser. 

  5. Add a face oil and apply before your nighttime moisturizer. My favorite is Caudalie Divine Oil

  6. Mix moisturizer with your foundation or switch to a tinted moisturizer

  7. For a little extra glow, use Tan Towels or self-tanner 2x weekly. 

  8. Apply body moisturizer nightly before putting on pajamas. To make the process less brutal on a cold night, fill your sink with hot water to warm your lotion bottle. 

  9. Apply lip balm before bed nightly.

  10. Use a deep hand and foot cream weekly and wear socks and gloves to bed to seal in moisture overnight.
