I’ve written about my closet before when I shared about a Ikea hack I did to make a closet island. I have plans to customize this space by first installing pocket doors to connect this room to our bedroom, then walling it off from the bedroom hallway. Ultimately, I’d love to then have a professional closet design and installation to complete this space. But until then, what I have works great.
My closet is just a spare bedroom that I’ve modified with some simple shelving solutions, the island, dressing table and rolling racks to make into a very functional and delightful space for getting dressed. I’ve been taking baby steps towards the ultimate goal of a building custom closet, and plan to complete our pocket door project next year. After that, I’ll repaint the room alabaster white and tear out the carpet and live with the cement sub-floor until we can install oak chevron floors. The last step will be the customized shelving, which may be a while. This summer, I found the perfect light fixture that’s like a piece of jewelry in here and fits perfectly into the final vision. This gorgeous vintage crystal chandelier was at a tag sale, and I added these linen shades to soften the light.
I love hanging out in this room, and often blog in here. This is one of the places in our house where I always like to keep fresh flowers and a candle. I also have a wireless speaker in here for listening to podcasts or Spotify. My dressing table is in front of the window, which provides great natural light for putting on makeup. In my dresser, I keep sunglasses, jewelry, scarves, underwear and belts. The rolling racks are organized by dresses and tops from light to dark. There’s closet system in here that was original to the bedroom, and I just removed the bi-fold doors to keep it open. Here, I hang pajamas, skirts and shorts, pants, and blazers. In the cubbies, I have cubes which store folded sweaters. I keep my shoes sorted by color on the Container Store Elfa shoe shelves. I just love this room!
