Our master closet, which I also refer to as my dressing room, is a repurposed bedroom adjacent to our master bedroom. Plans have been long in the works to adjoin this room to our bedroom with a new private entrance, and to close off the wall to our hallway. At that point, I would consider doing actual built-ins for shelving and hanging rods to upgrade from the current setup. Since I last posted about my closet, I have changed the layout slightly, added a new privacy shade, and painted the walls white so I’ll be sharing those updates in a new post soon.
I put together an inspiration board for my closet as this room is slowly coming together, some aspects already existing, and others forthcoming. A large, antique Venetian glass mirror that I found at an antiques shop sits atop my dressing table. The little round crystal lamp is a sentimental piece I already had. It was the same lamp I loved that was in the hotel room where we got engaged, and Nathan’s mom later gave one like it to us a gift. It sits on a dresser where I store jewelry, belts and undergarments. Recently, I tore out the last areas of carpet out of our house which included this room, so for now the flooring is just painted concrete, but will eventually be the same European White Oak hardwood we have in other rooms, that will flow in from our bedroom.
I know I definitely want double doors into the closet from our bedroom that when open, can stay flush with our bedroom walls instead of opening into the closet so that space in the closet is maximized. On my design board are white Shaker doors because I originally had thought to use the same doors that we used throughout our basement remodel. But now I’m toying with the idea of warming things up just slightly with a pair of unfinished knotty pine doors plus unlacquered brass hardware that I can distress to make look antiqued. Especially in a closet where there’s lots of visual stimulus, choosing light finishes helps to create a calming and bright space.
