Oyster Salt and Pepper Cellars

As pretty and endless the options in the world for salt and pepper shakers are, I love this idea for adding a natural and glamorous element to your table setting.

Supplies:

  • Oyster shells

  • Paintbrush

  • Mod Podge

  • Gold Foil Sheets

First, clean the oyster shells well. Soak the shells in a bleach and water solution for a few minutes to kill any bacteria, rinse and let dry. Apply a light coating of Mod Podge to the inside of the shell and let dry a few minutes until it is slightly tacky. With clean, dry hands, peel off a sheet of gold leaf and apply to the inner shell. The gold leaf will stick to the tacky surface. Keep applying until all of the inner shell is covered (you may need to re-apply glue since it dries pretty quickly). Fill the shells with salt and pepper and don’t forget a little spoon for serving!
