Cire Trudon Candles

The world’s oldest and most acclaimed candlemaker is Cire Trudon. Dating back to 1643, they provided illumination to the court of King Louis XIV, as well as to the great churches of France. Over the generations of family owners, they perfected the process of wax purification and created a perfectly clean-burning candle with virtually no smoke, nor trembling of the flame. A few centuries later in 2006, a few artisans relaunched Cire Trudon in partnership with master perfumers to add luxury scented candles to their offerings. These scented candles are created with skill utilizing many of the original production methods. The candles are made with high quality vegetable wax and cotton wicks, and poured in Italian hand-blown glass jars adorned with a golden foil label. The coat of arms which appears on the labels for Cire Trudon pays tribute to the original suppliers of their wax depicting a beehive and the motto Deo regique laborant (They work for God and the King, ‘they’ meaning the bees).

Every home should have a signature interior scent that adds to its atmosphere and tells a story. Cire Trudon are master storytellers as they formulate scents based on an historical theme or famous figure, like a white floral bouquet Marie Antoinette would have gathered at her Petit Trianon. Cire Trudon candles come at a premium cost as far as scented candles go, but the quality and nose is unparalleled. They will burn cleanly for up to 60 hours if cared for properly including: waiting until the wax has completely melted across the top to ensure even burning, trimming the wick in between burns, and using a snuffer to extinguish. It is also recommended to never burn more than 2-3 hours at a time as you won’t experience any more scent after this point, and you’ll be wasting the candle. I just adore reading the tantalizing descriptions for their candles and would love to try them all. I am currently burning ‘Ernesto’ in our sitting room, and the others are on my short list to try next!
