Painting Our Vinyl Exterior Windows Black

Several years ago when we replaced the white gutters on our house with black, it gave me the opportunity to rethink our home’s whole look. I love the overall bones and symmetrical layout of our 1969 brick ranch. These classic proportions make our house rather chameleon-esque and virtually any style can be applied to it. My taste tends to lean classic and French/Old World European-inspired; I love slate roof tiles, pea gravel walkways, natural stone accents, antique light fixtures and steel-framed windows. I decided to emulate the look of steel-framed windows to allow our windows to recede rather than pop, so I painted our vinyl windows black. One day, I would love to replace these vinyl windows with black steel windows, but in the meantime, I can enjoy the look of steel for the price of a can of paint.

Shortly after we painted our vinyl windows black, we selected new slate-look asphalt shingles for our roof which completely transformed a perfectly lovely house into this stunning little château of ours. This past year, five years after I first painted our vinyl windows with black satin exterior paint, they had begun to show some wear and a little fading so it was time for a refresh. My dad recommended a paint formula for a good quality paint with the maximum amount of black pigment that is possible to add. Maximum black pigment will outlast any black color formula, and possibly by the time it’s ready to repaint, I just may be installing steel-framed windows instead!
