Party Hats

We’ll be celebrating my birthday at home this year with takeout from one of my favorite restaurants and a good bottle of wine. An at-home celebration is made instantly more festive with the addition of party hats! You can create the classic cone with string, but I like to elevate mine with tinsel pom poms and my signature black velvet ribbon. Here is how to put together your very own homemade party hat.

You’ll need:

How-to:

  1. Cut out your party hat template.

  2. Trace the template onto the back of your cardstock. Make sure to pay attention to which direction the pattern of your paper is going if you have a patterned paper that is directional.

  3. Fold the tab towards the inside of the paper. Apply adhesive to the outside side of the tab (double-sided tape is quickest) and roll up your hat, fastening on the tab. Cut two lengths of ribbon (I used 20” for each length). Staple each ribbon to the inside of your hat for tying under your chin.

  4. For the final touch, hot glue a tinsel pom pom to the top of your party hat and voilà!
